Jessica Smith is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She graduated from Luther College with a degree in Elementary Education with a focus in Special Education. While teaching at a therapeutic day school, she felt drawn to support her student’s emotional health and immediately pursued her master’s degree in Social Work from Aurora University.
Jessica has been working with children and families since 2007 in settings including foster care, residential treatment centers for children and young adults, public schools and therapeutic day schools serving children ages 3-21 with emotional disabilities and behavior disorders. In these settings Jessica worked closely with families proactively to support their goals for their children but also to support them when experiencing a crisis.
Jessica believes that everyone can benefit from counseling! Taking care of our mental health is just as important as scheduling wellness visits with our doctor. Jessica’s counseling style is to meet her clients where they are at. Jessica takes the time to get to know you and together build a plan to meet your short-term and long-term therapeutic goals. Jessica feels that talking is very therapeutic, so your time together will be spent allowing you to share your story, explore challenges in your life, and discover how to make changes in order to meet your goals. Jessica specializes in child and adolescent counseling, parent coaching, suicide and self-harm prevention, body safety/sexual abuse prevention, anxiety, depression, anger, and navigating the world of special education.
